First appointment

What is discussed and examined during your first appointment.

The first appointment usually takes place at around eight to ten weeks of pregnancy and takes a good hour. It is the longest appointment of your pregnancy, and mostly a conversation.

What we go through

  • your medical history and your partner’s, and any illnesses in either family
  • previous pregnancies and births
  • medication, diet, smoking, alcohol and drugs
  • your work and your home situation
  • the date of your last period, so we can work out your due date

What we do

You are welcome to bring your partner. Bring your ID and your health insurance details, and write down your questions beforehand — there is plenty of time for them.

After this appointment you will come for a check-up roughly every four weeks; later in the pregnancy the appointments become more frequent. You can read more on the page about follow-up appointments.
