Complaints procedure

What you can do if something has gone wrong.

Do you have a complaint? Don't keep it to yourself

Talk it over with your midwife

It matters that you feel at ease with your midwife, because being pregnant is nerve-racking enough as it is. That is why we do everything we can to look after you and your baby well. Do you have questions? Doubts? Is there something you are unhappy about? Then tell us. Preferably as soon as possible, but also if you have been carrying it around for a while. We will talk it through together and try to put it right quickly. Perhaps we can clear up a misunderstanding. Or set your mind at rest. Or start working in a way you feel more comfortable with.

We are happy to make a separate appointment with you, so that we have time to talk without rushing. If you find it difficult to have that conversation, you may bring someone you trust along.

Call in a complaints officer

Would you like to know more about your rights, or would you like advice? Or would you rather discuss your complaint with someone else first? Or would you like someone to help you submit a complaint?

Then get in touch with the complaints officer.

The complaints officers are impartial. They will discuss with you what you are unhappy about and what you would like your complaint to achieve, and they will advise you on what you can do. They can also help you start the conversation with us if you find that difficult, or help you put your complaint in writing. The complaints officer can help you and us find a solution together. Everything you tell the complaints officer is confidential.

Contacting the complaints officer

You can reach a complaints officer through klachtverloskunde.nl.

The midwife will try to settle your complaint within six weeks, together with the complaints officer if need be. Within that period you will hear from us what we have done about your complaint.

If you cannot resolve matters with the midwife, even with the complaints officer mediating, you can put your complaint to the Midwifery Disputes Committee. This independent body investigates and judges whether your complaint is well founded, and issues a binding ruling.

There is more information on the Midwifery Disputes Committee website.
