If you choose to give birth in hospital, your community midwife will deliver your baby there. Once labour has started, the midwife will usually come to your home first to talk over when it is best to go in. You do not need to register or book in at the hospital beforehand.
What to take to hospital
We recommend taking at least the following:
- your pregnancy card
- your maternity file
- your hospital registration card
- valid photo identification (passport or ID card)
- any acknowledgement-of-paternity papers
- pyjamas or a nightdress and a dressing gown
- slippers or flip-flops
- enough underwear and clean clothes to go home in
- toiletries
- 2 complete sets of baby clothes (including a hat)
- a jacket for the baby
- car seat with a blanket for the journey home (worth practising with at home first)
- camera
- mobile phone or a list of phone numbers
The cost of a hospital birth under midwife-led care is not always covered in full by your health insurer. Do check the terms of your policy. If such a birth turns into a medically led birth, the costs are covered in full.
As a rule you will be referred to ZGT in Almelo. If you would rather give birth at the Röpcke-Zweers Hospital in Hardenberg or at another hospital, please let the midwife know in good time.
